A man accused of fatally opening fire on a Tires Plus employee on New Year’s Eve is now being held without bond after telling police he shot the victim because he thought he was attempting to steal his vehicle, a report from FOX 5 Atlanta said this week.

Daniel Gordon is being described as an ambitious 24-year-old as family, and friends are mourning this loss.

"Just being able to teach somebody who was so interested," a co-worker told FOX 5 Atlanta. "He wanted to move up and become an A-Tech like me. He would ask so many questions."

Quadarius McDowell, who DeKalb County Police say fled the scene after the shooting and was found nearby hiding, has now been charged with malice murder and made his first Superior Court appearance on Jan. 2, where he was remanded to custody.

A growing memorial to Gordon sits at the spot on DeKalb Industrial Way where he was fatally wounded.

"Everybody is talking about it," the co-worker said. "Everybody is so sad about it."
