City of Milton recently issued the following announcement.

Bethany Bend near Hopewell Road will be down to one lane for part of the April 4-8 week for an important, needed milestone in the construction project there – a move timed for Fulton County Schools’ Spring Break in hopes of minimizing its impact.

Flaggers will control the flow of traffic, so there won’t be a total closure. Still, those traveling in that area should consider seeking alternate routes given likely delays.

This should occur at least on Tuesday, April 5.  The contractor has asked for the option, too, of doing similar single-lane closures on other days later that week -- work that should have to be done anyway but is being moved up to a time when fewer cars should be on the road.

Crews have been working for months to improve traffic flow around where Hopewell Road intersects with Bethany Bend and, a short distance north, with Bethany Way. Projects of this scope often involve the relocation of utilities, which is what’s tied to next week’s closure (a waterline in this case).

Bad weather over the next week should not affect the timing unless there’s heavy rain on that Tuesday itself, in which case the lane closure could be pushed back. The City utilized this same strategy last summer for two roundabout projects elsewhere on Hopewell Road, temporarily closing parts of entire roads when more families were out-of-town in order to lessen the negative effects and save time in the long run.
