Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams raised nearly $12 million for her campaign during the three-month period ending April 30.
Running unopposed in the May 24 primary election, Abrams said she now has more than $8 million in cash on hand after spending millions on her campaign during the month of January, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Abrams temporarily put a pause on fundraising and instead asked supporters to donate to pro-abortion rights groups in the wake of the Supreme Court opinion draft leak that outlined the intention to overturn the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade decision, which made abortion procedures legal, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Republican Gov. Brian Kemp recently indicated he has at least $10.7 million on hand for his reelection campaign, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. The governor raised $2.7 million in the three-month period ending April 30, hindered by a state law that forbids officeholders from gaining contributions while state lawmakers are in meeting.
Abrams' campaign resumed fundraising recently, though Abrams is continuing to urge donors to support abortion-rights groups, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Abrams' campaign told Fox 5 Atlanta that since December, Abrams has received contributions from 187,000 separate donors.
