Lorela Cubaj has returned to Georgia Tech's women's basketball for the 2021-22 season after averaging a double-double for the Yellowjackets last season, according to a press release.

Cubaj was named to the 2022 Katrina McClain Award watch list by The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

"No surprise here … Lorela Cubaj is named one of the top 20 power forwards in the country on the Katrina McClain Award watch list," Georgia Tech wrote in an Oct. 28 Facebook post.

Cubaj is also the reigning ACC co-defensive player of the year.

The Katrina McClain Award recognizes the NCAA Division I women's college basketball's top power forwards. In March, the Hall of Fame’s selection committee will select a winner.

Visitors can find more information about the Katrina McClain Award and find instructions on how to vote at www.hoophallawards.com.

The award was named for two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year Katrina McClain-Pittman, according to the press release. She had a notable career that spanned three Olympic Games and three continents, winning two Olympic gold medals and one bronze, three FIBA World Championships medals and five medals at the Goodwill Games, Pan Am Games, and World University Games.

McClain-Pittman attended University of Georgia and was a two-time Kodak All-American and the WBCA National Player of the Year her senior season.
