Road closures in Downtown Alpharetta expected to impact Thursday evening commute

The closure of several roads in and near Downtown Alpharetta will impact the evening drive for commuters and residents on Thursday, September 19. The closures, which are related to a large road race, are as follows:

Haynes Bridge Road (5:00 PM – 8:30 PM)

All lanes of Haynes Bridge Road between Old Milton Parkway and Academy Street will be closed.

Westside Parkway (6:15 PM – 8:00 PM)

One southbound lane will be closed between Webb Bridge Road and Old Milton Parkway.

Academy Street (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM)

All eastbound lanes between SR9/Main Street and Westside Parkway will be closed. These lanes will be reopened immediately behind the race as the last runner clears each intersection. Westbound lanes may be delayed briefly at 6:30 PM as the race begins.

Thompson Street (6:15 PM – 8:00 PM)

The westbound lane of Thompson Street will be closed between Westside Parkway and Haynes Bridge Road.

Park Plaza (Closures Begin At 5:00 PM)

5:15 PM – 9:00 PM Complete closure between Haynes Bridge Road and Commerce Street. Vehicles will be allowed to exit the parking deck to Haynes Bridge Road until 5:45 PM and after 9:00 PM.

5:15 PM – 6:45 PM Complete closure between Haynes Bridge Road and Academy Street.

6:45 PM – 9:00 PM Access for Amorance residents ONLY to/from the underground parking deck southbound ONLY from Academy Street to Commerce Street.

Commerce Street (5:15 PM – 9:00 PM)

The eastbound lane of Commerce Street will be closed between Market Street and Park Plaza.

Motorists whose destinations are not in Downtown Alpharetta are strongly encouraged to avoid the area if possible. Heavy traffic delays are anticipated on the periphery of the closure area as commuters seek alternative routes of travel.
