The City of Alpharetta invites residents to participate in the annual "Bring One for The Chipper" event, a long-standing tradition aimed at recycling natural Christmas trees. Scheduled for Saturday, January 4th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the event will be held in the Home Depot parking lot on Windward Parkway.

Recycled trees will be processed into mulch by Davey Tree Experts and donated for use in public spaces such as playgrounds and parks. Participants can also request free mulch through a form available on the City of Alpharetta’s website. Additionally, unwanted Christmas tree lights can be recycled at the event.

This initiative is part of a broader statewide effort that has successfully recycled over six million trees since its inception 34 years ago. Despite the increasing popularity of artificial trees, real Christmas trees offer environmental benefits such as carbon absorption and wildlife habitat provision. According to the National Christmas Tree Association, nearly 350 million Christmas trees are currently grown on U.S. farms.

The program supports local economies and encourages environmental stewardship by converting discarded trees into useful materials like mulch or creating fish habitats in lakes. The event is coordinated by the City of Alpharetta and partners including the Young Men’s Service League and Alpharetta Rotary Club. Statewide sponsors include Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, The Home Depot, Davey Tree Company, Georgia Forestry Commission, Ferry-Morse, and Burpee.
