Alpharetta, Georgia - May 3, 2024
The city of Alpharetta has issued a reminder to its residents regarding the prohibition of outdoor burning within its limits. The annual ban on outdoor burning in Metro Atlanta has come into effect this week, with Alpharetta enforcing a stricter stance on the matter.
"Our local ordinance makes such outdoor burning illegal throughout the year and violating that ordinance can bring a $1,000 fine and other penalties," stated city officials. Alpharetta's year-round ban on outdoor burning is clearly outlined in Section 20-8 of the City Code, specifically prohibiting the burning of various materials like refuse, rubbish, brush, wood, trash, leaves, tree limbs, or other combustible items within the city.
Despite the strict ban, there are exceptions in place as mentioned by officials. The ordinance allows for certain activities such as recreational fire pits, grills for food preparation, fires related to fire fighting personnel training, and the use of equipment like welding torches and blow torches.
