Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) are set to continue their work on a resurfacing project on State Route 9 (SR 9) in the cities of Roswell and Alpharetta in Fulton County this weekend.
The project, with limits from just north of the Chattahoochee River Bridge to Upper Hembree Road, will see overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26 until 5 a.m. on Saturday, weather and on-site conditions permitting. These closures are aimed at ensuring the safety of crews and minimizing traffic flow disruptions.
According to a statement, the resurfacing project aims to "produce a smoother ride for drivers while also improving the condition of the deteriorating roadway." The final phase will involve the reapplication of lane striping and the replacement of manholes. The project, with a budget of $5.1 million, is expected to be completed by late fall 2024.
To inform pedestrians and motorists about the closures, various measures such as on-site signage, message boards, traffic cones, and police officers will be employed as needed in the area. Drivers are urged to anticipate delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed when passing through the work zone during the project hours.
In light of the ongoing work, the public is encouraged to stay informed about the project's progress and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
