A Fulton County deputy is hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times.
The incident took place during the early-morning hours of Sept. 5, when the still unidentified deputy worked to complete processing of a detainee brought in the night before on a charge of misdemeanor terroristic threats and was attacked and stabbed numerous times, according to a Fox 5 Atlanta report.
Sheriff Patrick Labat said "the detainee had been brought to the jail by Atlanta police late Sunday night for an incident in which the person had been charged with misdemeanor terroristic threats," according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Investigators identified the suspect as Richard Parham and say they are now looking into how he smuggled a weapon into the jail, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Investigators also noted the injured deputy is now listed in stable condition and more than likely will not require any form of surgery.
“He is surrounded by both family and co-workers" Labat said in a video interview with Fox 5 Atlanta.
In addition, Labat is asking the public to keep him in their prayers in hopes he will have a full and speedy recovery.
