Georgia Tech sophomore first baseman Andrew Jenkins has been named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week, after a remarkable 10-hit performance to close out the regular season last week.
Jenkins collected 10 hits as the Yellow Jackets reeled off a five-game win streak to end the regular season, a release this week from ramblinwreck.com said.
During the week, Jenkins produced two doubles and four home runs, including the go-ahead ninth-inning homer in Game 1 against Pitt that led Tech to a sweep, the release said.
This comes as some of Jenkin’s most impressive work in conference action, the release said. Against league opponents alone, he batted .404 (third in the conference) with a .765 slugging percentage (second). He led the ACC with 55 hits and 40 runs scored, and he ranking seventh in home runs with 12. The release described him as “one of the greatest threats in the ACC at the plate.”
In 23 at-bats last week, the first baseman hit .435 and posted a .440 on-base percentage, and he was not struck out during the week.
The Jackets went up against No. 11-seed Pitt in the first game of the ACC tournament on Tuesday but fell to the Panthers 12-6. They will face Louisville on Thursday at Truist Field. The game will be broadcast live on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks as well as WREK 91.1 FM.
