Georgia Tech baseball will march into its 2022 campaign just a spot shy of a top 10 spot in a national preseason poll.
A program-issued press release said that Collegiate Baseball ranked the two-time defending ACC Coastal Division Champion Yellow Jackets at number 11, which is GT’s first national preseason ranking.
The team is among the six ACC squads included in the preseason poll, with Notre Dame a spot higher than the Yellow Jackets at number 10.
According to the release, the Yellow Jackets boasts one of the nation’s deepest rosters, as well as one of the offensive lineups per D1Baseball.
Kevin Parada, Andrew Jenkins, Drew Compton, Tres Gonzalez, Stephen Reid, Jake DeLeo, John Anderson and Colin Hall are expected to continue providing the Yellow Jackets sparks at-bat.
Pitching wise, GT’s bullpen is a well-stocked group of veterans that include Zach Maxwell, Josiah Siegel, Dawson Brown, Marquis Grissom, Jr., Luke Bartnicki and Dalton Smith in addition to Sam Crawford and Joseph Mannelly.
“In total, Tech sports seven players ranked in Perfect Game’s top 300 MLB prospects and four in D1Baseball’s top 100 prospects list," the school said in its press release.
The program also added five transfer players.
A goal for the Yellow Jackets in 2022 is to join Florida State, Miami, and Louisville as the fourth ACC program overall and the second in the Coastal Division to win three-straight division titles since the conference divided into division championships in 2006.
Earlier this month, the team released its upcoming season schedule, which includes five ACC home series and the much-anticipated Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate three-game weekend series with Georgia.
This will be the sixth consecutive year the Yellow Jackets play their home games at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The 2022 campaign will be head coach Danny Hall’s 29th season at GT.
