City of Roswell issued the following announcement on August 02.
To support its efforts in combating dog waste, the City of Roswell Environmental/Public Works Department will host a "Dog Day" at East Roswell Park's Dog Park on Aug. 21. Residents can bring their pups to play, grab some great giveaways, and learn about the effects of dog waste on waterways and how to combat it. The winners of the City's dog photo contest will also be awarded prizes.
The "Rule No. 1 is Pick Up No. 2" dog waste education campaign aims to increase awareness of water quality improvements by encouraging all dog owners and caretakers to collect their pets’ waste (whether on public or private land) bag it, and place it in the trash.
Dog waste is a major contributor to the contamination of waterways and the storm sewer system. The campaign educates the community of the need to dispose of all pet waste in a timely manner, whether in a public park, right of way, and in our own backyard. The majority of waste pollution occurs on private property.
The campaign will be active through December 2021. Look for more information in utility bills, the City of Roswell website, Roswell parks, social media, local pet stores, and veterinarian offices. Activities for residents include a pledge to clean up pet waste, a pet photo contest, prizes, and giveaways. Residents’ help is needed to raise awareness that "Rule No. 1 is to pick up No. 2."
