As the coronavirus pandemic begins to finally subside, experts and public health officials are pushing hard for more citizens to get the coronavirus vaccine.

The science is sound – the more people that have the vaccine, the more protected the general population will be, especially those that are especially prone to the coronavirus – including the elderly and sick.

However, the push for the vaccine has also sparked some controversy and discourse. Mainly, should the government be able to mandate a vaccine for the good of public health? Or to a lesser extent, should companies and businesses be able to mandate the vaccine for customers or employees?

According to a survey conducted by the Trafalgar Group, the majority of respondents believe that regardless of what public health officials think, getting the vaccine should be a personal choice.

Conducted in partnership with the Convention of States Action (COSA), the survey asked 1,077 likely general election voters whether taking a COVID-19 vaccine should be mandated or should be a personal choice. Among respondents, 71.4% said that it should be a personal choice and only 21.8% supported a vaccine mandate.

The results did vary slightly by partisan affiliation, but both sides had majorities in support of personal choice. Exactly 58.7% of Democrats and 87.3% of Republicans were in favor of personal choice for the COVID-19 vaccine over a mandate. The results showed that 67.2% of independents or third-party supporters agreed.

Georgia reports that 45.05% of residents have had at least one dose of a COVID vaccine, with 38.02% being fully vaccinated. This amounts to 4.04 million fully vaccinated people.

The Trafalgar Group is a public polling and market research firm. Real Clear Politics called it the 'most accurate pollster of the cycle among those firms that polled multiple senate and governor races” this year.

COSA is a grassroots political organization with over 5 million supporters across the United States. The organization's primary focus is on calling an Article V Convention of the States to propose amendments to the US Constitution. COSA only promotes amendments which would impose limitations on the size and scope of the federal government.
