Gov. Brian Kemp said a lawsuit planned by the U.S. Department of Justice over the state's new election law was "born out of lies and disinformation," Fox 46 reported.

The Justice Department planned the lawsuit over S.B. 202, claiming that it was structured to make it more difficult for African-Americans to vote, Fox 46 said.

"Not a word from national Democrats on the election fiasco in the nation’s largest city as they continue to spread lies and attack secure, accessible, fair elections in Georgia," Kemp said on Twitter.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the lawsuit on June 25, challenging the law's new limitations on absentee voting and the reduction of ballot drop boxes, the news station said.

Republicans pushed back immediately, saying the new law is fair and prevents voter fraud, Fox 46 said.

Democrats such as Rep. Nikema Williams, chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, claim that the state's new law is a form of voter suppression that was established in response to Georgia flipping to a blue state.

“The President and his administration, Stacey Abrams and their far-left allies have lied about the election integrity act from the beginning. This is the truth, SB 202 ensures that Georgia elections are secure, accessible and fair. It expands access to early voting, it ensures drop boxes are available in every county and secured around the clock,” Kemp said, Fox 46 reported.

The state's new law also requires voter identification instead of the prior signature verification method.
