A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of North Georgia, effective from 7 AM Friday to 7 AM Saturday. Forecasters predict significant snow, sleet, and freezing rain, leading to hazardous travel conditions beginning early Friday morning and lasting through Saturday. The Friday morning commute is expected to be particularly affected. Authorities strongly advise against non-essential travel during this period.

The weather alert includes important reminders about potential dangers and preparation steps. Prolonged periods of snow and ice are likely to make travel dangerous across North Georgia. People are encouraged to limit travel as much as possible during the storm.

Power outages may occur due to ice accumulation and fallen trees. Residents are advised to charge portable chargers and electronic devices in advance to maintain connectivity.

To prepare for the storm, residents should stock up on essentials like groceries, water, and snacks before Friday morning to avoid last-minute shopping trips.

The City of Alpharetta has announced its readiness to respond effectively to the storm. Public Works crews have plows and salt trucks ready for deployment, staffing plans are prepared, and the City’s Emergency Operations Center will open early Friday morning for continuous monitoring and adjustments as necessary.

Winter weather resources can be accessed on the City's website WINTER WEATHER PAGE. These resources include details on road treatment prioritization, reporting power outages, and information about downed trees blocking public roads.

For safety reasons and to support storm response efforts, residents are urged to stay off area streets and roadways on Friday if possible. The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety will provide real-time updates and safety tips through social media channels.
