Alpharetta is expected to experience the most significant impacts from Hurricane Helene between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM on Friday, September 27, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service. The city is currently under a flash flood warning until 5:15 AM and a flood watch that will expire at 2:00 PM.
The primary impacts of Helene on Alpharetta will include sustained winds of 34 mph with gusts ranging between 49 to 59 mph. Residents should also anticipate widespread and extended power outages due to downed trees and heavy rain that may cause flash flooding.
Authorities urge residents to prioritize safety during and after the hurricane. "Follow trusted sources like the National Weather Service, the City of Alpharetta, and local news for the latest information," they advise. The City will provide updates on its website (www.alpharetta.ga.us) and social media accounts (Facebook, Nextdoor, Twitter) throughout the storm event. Real-time updates and safety tips can be found by following the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety on these platforms.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel so emergency personnel and utility crews can operate efficiently. High winds could propel debris with enough force to cause serious injury, and downed power lines pose an electrocution risk.
People are also warned against driving through flooded roads with the reminder, "Turn around, don’t drown."
For life-threatening emergencies only, call 911. For non-life-threatening issues requiring police or fire services, call 678-297-6300. Power outages should be reported directly to electric utility providers. Other issues can be reported using the SeeClickFix app available on smartphones or via the City website (https://www.alpharetta.ga.us/about/tools-available/seeclickfix).
