The City of Alpharetta and the Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will host a community recycling event on Saturday, September 14, 2024. The event will take place at Alpharetta’s Public Works Department, located at 1790 Hembree Road, from 8:30 am to noon. North Fulton businesses and residents are invited to recycle electronics, documents for shredding, select hard-to-recycle plastics, and packaging Styrofoam®.

Alpharetta has partnered with Atlanta Recycling Solutions to facilitate the collection of electronics. This initiative aims to provide an opportunity for proper recycling and safe disposal of unwanted electronics. Atlanta Recycling Solutions ensures that all accepted items are recycled.

A list of acceptable items is available, with specific charges applied to certain types of televisions:

- Acceptable televisions: $30 each

- CRT devices: $30 each

- Projection TVs: $50 each

It should be noted that console units, projection TVs, or TV tubes are not accepted. Businesses with large quantities of electronics are encouraged to contact Atlanta Recycling Solutions directly at (678) 566-6665 for pickup options.

For document shredding, a mobile on-site shredding truck will allow residents and small businesses to safely discard confidential documents. Shredded materials will be recycled into new paper without compromising confidential information. Staples, paper clips, rubber bands, and sticky notes do not need to be removed; however larger binders or metal items should be excluded. There is a strict limit of five boxes per household/business. If the truck fills before noon, the collection will end early.

The NRC requests participants bring a canned food item per box brought for shredding. Collected food items will be distributed through the North Fulton Community Charities Food Bank. Participants should remain in their vehicles as staff will handle unloading.

New additions to this year’s event include certain plastics and Styrofoam® that are not typically accepted curbside. Accepted items include clean and dry plastic containers marked with numbers 1 (PET), 2 (HDPE), 5 (PP), and 6 (PS). Containers must be separated by number for quick inspection. White packaging Styrofoam®, free from tape, is also accepted; however colored Styrofoam®, packing peanuts or takeout food containers are not allowed.

Glass bottles can always be recycled at Alpharetta Public Works Department's permanent drop-off location in the front parking lot at 1790 Hembree Road. Only clean glass beverage and food containers are accepted.

For more information about this event please contact Terry Porter at tporter@alpharetta.ga.us or call (678) 297-6213.
