Motorists are advised that the intersection of Roswell Street and Marietta Street in Downtown Alpharetta will be changed to a 4-way stop beginning Wednesday, August 7. Vehicular traffic approaching the intersection from any direction will be required to come to a complete stop before proceeding.

The City of Alpharetta is making this change to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians traveling through this area.

On August 1, crews from the City of Alpharetta began installing temporary elements necessary to implement the 4-way stop intersection. The work includes removing the northbound left turn lane from Roswell Street onto Marietta Street, removing existing lane markings, applying new temporary striping, and installing new stop signs. The work will be completed on August 2, but the new stop signs will remain covered until Wednesday, August 7 when the 4-way stop becomes active.

Beginning August 1, motorists will see variable message boards advising that the new traffic pattern will begin on August 7.

The new 4-way stop configuration for the Roswell Street/Marietta Street intersection is part of a larger change coming to the Roswell Street Corridor. The City plans to release bid documents later this year for pedestrian improvements on the east side of Roswell Street from Old Milton Parkway to Old Roswell Street. These improvements, which are part of the Alpha Loop trail network, include a 12-foot-wide sidewalk and narrowing vehicular travel lanes on Roswell Street. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2025.
