The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has informed the City of Alpharetta that the intersection of Maxwell Road at State Route 9 will remain closed through October. The closure, initiated in mid-June, aims to ensure the safety of both the public and the construction crew working on the realignment of the intersection.
Motorists are advised to use the following detours to navigate around the road closure:
State Route 9 Northbound:
Traffic will be detoured past Maxwell Road to turn right (eastbound) on Old Milton Parkway, then right (southbound) on Haynes Bridge Road, followed by a right (westbound) onto Morrison Parkway, and finally a right (northbound) onto Maxwell Road.
State Route 9 Southbound:
Traffic will be detoured past Maxwell Road to turn right (southbound) onto Northmeadow Parkway, then left (eastbound) onto Hembree Road, and finally left (northbound) onto Maxwell Road.
Maxwell Road:
Traffic on the open portion of Maxwell Road can access State Route 9 by traveling southbound on Maxwell to Hembree Road and then turning either left or right onto Hembree Road to complete the detour route.
The realignment of the Maxwell Road intersection is part of GDOT's State Route 9 Improvement Project. In communication sent to the City of Alpharetta on July 22, 2024, GDOT stated that the project is scheduled for completion in spring 2025.
