The City of Roswell recently marked the completion of one of its first Bond Program projects—the new turf fields at East Roswell Park. On Friday, May 19, Mayor Kurt Wilson, members of the City Council, and City staff celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new turf fields, followed by the inaugural "Battle of the Badges" Kickball Game between Roswell's Police Department and Fire Department.
"The opening of the new East Roswell turf fields is an exciting milestone for Roswell," said Mayor Kurt Wilson. "This marks the first of many Bond-related project completions that we will celebrate with our community over the next several years. We thank Roswell voters for their strong support of the Bond Program and their investment in Roswell's future."
The East Roswell Park turf project involved the replacement of two artificial turf fields, which were originally converted from grass to turf in 2013 but had reached the end of their useful life. The new turf has 100% slit-film fibers, a 3-layer infill system, and is topped with CoolPlay, which helps provide cooler surface temperatures from traditional infill materials.
These fields will provide the best combination of durability and safety over the next decade. Both fields also received new fencing with bigger poles and stronger mesh, as well as the City logo at midfield. Field #2 was outfitted with a new lines package, allowing the Recreation and Parks Department to expand its capacity for games and practices at East Roswell Park.
Field #1, which was funded through FY2023 CIP East Roswell Park Improvements, cost $527,900. Field #2, which was funded through the City of Roswell’s Bond Program, cost $591,170.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was attended by many members of the public, Roswell Police Department and Roswell Fire Department took to the new turf to play a kickball game. The exciting 4-4 game went into overtime but resulted in a tie for Roswell's public safety heroes.
The East Roswell Turf Field is the first of many Bond-funded projects that will be initiated and completed in the coming months. To learn more about the City of Roswell’s Bond Program, visit www.RoswellGov.com/Bond.
