The Atlanta Falcons recently dealt suspended receiver Calvin Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a trade that could bring the team anywhere from a second to a six-round draft pick.
Atlanta Falcons General Manager, Terry Fontenot, said the team appreciates Ridley's contributions and wishes him luck in the future, according to a Fox 5 Atlanta report.
"As our team continues its growth, we continue our daily focus on improving our roster and believe this move is the best decision to make at this time," Fontenot said.
The pick the Falcons will ultimately land is contingent on when Ridley is reinstated by the league, how much he plays in 2023 and whether he signs a long-term deal with the Jaguars, according to Fox 5.
Ridley was suspended for the entire 2022 season by NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, after news broke that he bet on NFL games in 2021 while away from the team addressing mental health concerns. At that time, league officials asserted the suspension would carry "through at least the conclusion of the 2022 season."
Following news of his suspension, Ridley lashed out over the severity of his punishment, insisting on Twitter that he does not have a gambling problem and only bet $1,500 on NFL games, the report states.
