Amid allegations sparking controversy of GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker’s (R-GA) campaign, former President Donald Trump is choosing to stand by his endorsed candidate.
A recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta highlights a statement released by Trump, seemingly accusing the media and Democrats of “slandering” Walker’s name.
“Herschel Walker is being slandered and maligned by the Fake News Media and obviously the Democrats," FOX 5 reports Trump said.
This comes following a recent Daily Beast article, claiming Walker encouraged a former girlfriend to have an abortion in 2009 and later urged her to have a second procedure, which she refused, instead giving birth to a son she claims Walker has been largely estranged from and has little role in raising.
According to FOX 5, as the growing controversy has lingered on, Walker's son, Christian, has spoken out against his father, recently taking to Twitter to tweet "every family member of Herschel Walker asked him not to run for office, because we all knew (some of) his past. Every single one."
While Walker has claimed he was planning to file a defamation suit against the Daily Beast over the article, FOX 5 reports his opponent, Sen. Raphael Warnock, has largely been silent on the issue, telling reporters he planned to allow all the political pundits to predict how the scandal may impact the race.
