The Atlanta Braves are planning to dedicate the team’s Braves Foundation 50/50 raffle proceeds to helping victims of Hurricane Ian in Florida, where a massive cleanup effort is underway in the wake of all the damage and destruction left by the storm.
In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Atlanta Braves President and CEO Derek Schiller said Braves fans have seen the devastation and want to help, hoping to raise a significant amount of money for those in need.
"The last two hurricanes have affected us personally with player and staff families in Puerto Rico and Florida," Schiller said. "We are assisting our staff in Florida and thankful they are all safe, but we know there are many others who need help."
According to the report, Atlanta Braves fans also had the opportunity through Oct. 5 to donate to the team's Rubicon Hurricane relief effort by going to braves.com/give.
As another part of the fundraising effort, the team is offering autographed items through a silent auction on MLB's Ballpark app, with all the proceeds contributing to hurricane relief efforts.
The defending champion Atlanta Braves recently reclaimed first-place in the National League by sweeping the division rival New York Mets in a three-game showdown series, moving the team a step closer in its quest for a fifth straight division title and back-to-back World Series titles, the report said. As of Oct. 1, the team had won eight of the 17 games in the season series.
