Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Wesleyan, Takes Two Conference Ties

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 After playing their last four games at home, the Covenant women's soccer team has finally picked up a conference win on the road against Wesleyan. Though the Scots have not been able to find the success they have been hoping for on Scotland Yard recently, the team was able to get in a groove last night in order to shut out the Wolves 4-0.

Covenant Women's Soccer has been battling conference teams for the past three games, two resulting in a tie at home. After the Wesleyan match (Sept. 29), the Scots' conference record now sits at 1-0-2.

Before snagging last night's win, the Lady Scots faced Piedmont (Sept. 21) and LaGrange (Sept. 24). In the 0-0 contest against Peidmont, Covenant out-shot the Lions 8-4–– Reece Black, Leah Marr, Mae Pierce, Lillie Cate, and Reghan Black all taking their opportunity to score, but could not find the back of the net. Peidmont was only able to put one shot on goal, which Lucy Sandhoff was able to get a hold of and make the save.

The Scots went on to play LaGrange this past weekend on Saturday, September 24th for Homecoming. Although the Scots put up a significantly higher amount of shots than the Panthers, Goalkeeper Leila Moss made six saves for LaGrange. Lucy Sandhoff faced four shots on goal and made three saves. However, it was the Panthers that got on the board early with Madison Drobisch's goal in the 17th minute. Thankfully, the Lady Scots were able to even the score in the second half. Nikki Shirley scored an unassisted goal at 66:02. Though not able to walk away with the Homecoming win, the Scots have not suffered a conference loss yet this season.

In the blowout win against Wesleyan, Anabella Goehring had quite the outing, ending the night with two of the four goals and one assist. It was almost a scoreless first half until with under nine minutes remaining, Reghan Black gave Anna Dolan the perfect pass and Dolan was able to sink one in past the Wolves' goalkeeper. The score of the first half had Covenant with one goal, Wesleyan with zero.

Within the first five minutes, Geohring decided one goal on the board was not enough. Geohring scored her first goal of the night, assisted by Leah Marr, to give the Scots a 2-0 lead. Annabella Geohring scored her second goal of the night just eighteen minutes later. 23:01 remained in the second half when Reece Black found Geohring to advance Covenant to three goals. In the 78th minute, Goehring assisted Reghan Black on her first goal of the game. Reghan Black's goal made the win a done-deal. Final score: 4-0.

Last night, the Scots were able to put up the most amount of shots that they have taken against a team all season. Covenant well out-shot the Wolves, 40-0.

Senior Lucy Sandhoff was in the goalkeeper position for the Lady Scots, recording her second shutout of the season.

The Lady Scots will be away taking on Berea next Tuesday, October 4th at 5:30 PM. CONNECT WITH THE SCOTS
