A group of Metro Atlanta residents are fighting to get a local Citgo gas station shut down on the grounds that crime and mischief are running rampant at the Martin Luther King Drive location.
In a report by FOX 5 Atlanta this week, a group of homeowners who held a protest in Adamsville over the weekend said they have had enough of the gas station they contend has been at the center of crime in the community for years.
"We're here for one reason and one reason only and that's to shut this place down," local resident Ricky Brown told FOX 5 Atlanta. "You've got crime, you've got prostitution, you've got drug sales on this property. You've got shootings and killings and murders. It's all types of crime going on in this property."
Neighbors noted that the gas station has consistently attracted the wrong element and has been the scene of rampant crime and other bad behavior, the report said.
In 2022 alone, authorities said the Atlanta Police Department has fielded nearly 100 phone calls about the convenience store alone.
City leaders insisted that tenants at the gas station only moved to hire security at the location after being ordered to do so by the court, and officials said their attempts to work with store owners to make the location more safe have all fallen short.
