The number of males electing to have vasectomies is up since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, declaring that there would no longer be a constitutional right to abortion and leaving it up to the states’ discretion for determining their own abortion laws.

In a recent FOX 5 Atlanta report, Georgia father Brad Slayton said he chose to undergo the surgical sterilization procedure after deciding the four children they already have is enough.

"I knew, and my wife knew: no more kids," he told FOX 5 Atlanta. “I have two kids from a previous marriage, and she has two kids from a previous marriage, and we were getting ready for our wedding. It was kind of like, 'Four is good; we don't want five.’”

Georgia law currently bans most abortions once a "detectable human heartbeat" is present, a recent WRDW report said. With cardiac activity detectable by ultrasound as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, this takes away the option for abortion before many women even realize they are pregnant.

Since a draft of the Supreme Court decision was leaked in May, Google has also reported a 99% jump in users searching for the term "vasectomy" and a 250% jump in questions about how effective the procedure is, the FOX 5 report said.

But the increase in interest for the procedure isn’t just noticeable in search trends.

Georgia Urology's Dr. Shaya Taghechian told FOX 5 Atlanta that her business has seen a similar rise in calls about vasectomies since the Supreme Court announced its decision, with vasectomy consults doubling to approximately 30 a day.

The surgical sterilization procedure typically takes 15-20 minutes to perform and carries an average cost of approximately $1,000, according to Planned Parenthood; the FOX 5 report said.
