Georgia Tech basketball coach Josh Pastner has promoted Anthony Wilkins to associate head coach after four seasons as an assistant coach.

In a release this week on ramblinwreck.com, Wilkins said he is proud of the steps the program has taken to restore the energy and excitement he grew up watching, adding that he is especially proud of the progress and excellence the players have demonstrated so far.

“This is a well-deserved promotion for Anthony, and I’m excited that he’s on our staff,” Pastner said in the release. “He’s been instrumental in our successes over the last four years, keeping us grounded in our culture and excelling on the court with his coaching and his ability to develop our players. He’s going to be a head coach in the near future.”

The 41-year-old Wilkins arrived at Georgia Tech in 2018 after spending five years on Tulane’s coaching staff, the release said. His biggest impacts on the Yellow Jackets’ team have been with player- and skill development.

Wilkins is also credited with helping to develop the backcourt tandem of Jose Alvarado and Michael Devoe into two of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s top scorers the last two years.

Noted as one of the top rising coaches in the country, Wilkins was one of a small number of respected assistant coaches invited to attend the Collegiate Coaching Consortium at the Final Four in April, the release said.
