Former Vice President Mike Pence is on tap to headline a rally for Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp ahead of the upcoming May 24 primary.
Pence highlighted his support in a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, stating his hope for the governor to serve the state for another four years.
"Brian Kemp is my friend, a man dedicated to faith, family and the people of Georgia," Pence said in a statement, quoted by Fox 5. "I am proud to offer my full support for four more years of Brian Kemp as governor of the great state of Georgia.”
Kemp faces multiple challengers in the May 24 primary, including former U.S. Sen. David Perdue, who has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, the report said. Trump has frequently blamed Kemp for his Georgia loss in the 2020 election and later sought to pressure Pence into overturning the results, which Pence has publicly insisted he never had the power or authority to do.
The FOX 5 report noted that endorsements from national politicians are often a way campaigns try to boost voter turnout. The upcoming elections are set to be an indicator of how much political power Trump still has across the country.
The Pence rally will be held on May 23, the report said. The exact location and time, however, have not yet been released.
