Harbin will face eight GOP challengers in the May 24 primary election for Georgia's 6th Congressional District | Blake Harbin campaign
A survey of 3,600 likely Republican primary voters in Georgia's 6th Congressional District conducted by E-GSC LLC found that Blake Harbin is now the second favorite out of nine candidates on the ballot among respondents.
“The incredible gains by our campaign shows the momentum that we have built with voters in the 6th district," Harbin said in a statement. "They have spoken and we are listening. Economy and education are two important priorities for Georgians. Stopping Bidenflation, cutting taxes and creating jobs are the foundation to our economic recovery. Fighting for parental freedom and choice in children’s education is without question a must."
According to the survey, 17% of respondents selected Harbin as their candidate of choice, putting him only three points behind Rich McCormick. Jake Evans was behind Harbin in third place, while Mallory Staples took fourth place with 4% of respondents' support.
The survey, conducted May 6-10, found that the top issue on voters' minds is stopping inflation (18%), while protecting parental rights is a close second (17%). Fifteen percent of respondents indicated that creating jobs is their top issue, while 13% selected "preserving our Second Amendment."
Among comments, the congressional candidate said the campaign is seeing a “tremendous increase in support across all major demographics,” expecting to close the gap before the May 24 primary election.
McCormick, an emergency room doctor, is seeking the Republican nomination for Georgia's 6th congressional seat, which is being vacated by Congresswoman Lucy McBath, according to 11 Alive. McCormick ran in the state's 7th congressional district last year, a portion of which is now included in the redrawn 6th district.
"The Sixth Congressional District is my community," McCormick said in a press release, though Harbin claims he does not live in the district or know the people.
Harbin will face eight GOP challengers in the May 24 primary: Byron Gatewood, Rich McCormick, Meagan Hanson, Paulette Smith, Jake Evans, Suzi Voyles, Mallory Staples and Eugene Yu, according to Ballotpedia. The general election will take place on Nov. 8.
