LaSondra Barrett, a former All-American at LSU, was hired as assistant coach for Georgia Tech's women's basketball team, according to a news release from the university.
"We're extremely excited to welcome LaSondra 'Boogie' Barrett to Georgia Tech," head coach Nell Fortner said in the news release. “LaSondra is making her way up the ranks as an excellent collegiate women's basketball coach, just like she worked her way through an excellent collegiate career at LSU. She'll be in charge of our post players and post development, so I know we are in good hands with her leading our players at that position. I can't wait to get her to Atlanta and start working with our players."
Barrett was instrumental in helping lead the LSU Cougars to a pair of WNIT postseason appearances. She worked as the director of recruiting operations and as assistant coach from 2020 to 2021, working primarily with the post players.
She was a coaching assistant at Louisiana Tech from 2018 to 2019 and Florida International from 2016 to 2017. Barrett helped Louisiana Tech tutor all-CUSA first-team selection Kierra Anthony to a season where she ranked first in the C-USA and fourth nationally in scoring.
A native of Jackson, Miss., Barrett was a four-year letter winner at LSU from 2009 to 2012; she played for current Georgia Tech associate head coach Tasha Butts during her senior season, from 2011 to 2012, the news release said.
"I'm extremely excited to join the Georgia Tech family," Barrett said in the news release. "I can't wait to work with such an amazing staff and a legendary coach in Nell Fortner. It's a full-circle moment for me to be working with some familiar faces and even greater people. The staff has ignited something great on The Flats with positive energy and a winning culture. I plan to continue that vision for our student-athletes' development, on and off the court.”
