Nine Atlanta Public Schools (APS) teachers have been honored as a part of the “Year of the Teacher” joint initiative between the Atlanta Hawks and Clorox.
In a release by the NBA Tuesday, APS Superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring mentioned the organizations’ acknowledgment and celebration of teachers in the district, citing it as a wonderful honor and congratulating those awarded.
“On behalf of APS, I would like to thank Clorox and the Hawks for continuing their support of our teachers and schools selecting our teachers through the Year of the Teacher initiative,” Herring said in the release
The nine teachers awarded received more than $10,000 of product and support donated by the two partners, the release states.
According to the NBA, nominations were accepted over a five-month period from November through March. While initial nominations were accepted from the public, teachers receiving the honor were ultimately selected by a panel and received prizes including Clorox cleaning supplies, two Hawks home game tickets, in-game recognition as the game’s honorary co-captains and a $500 gift card for additional school supplies, the release states.
This comes as Clorox has become the Hawks and State Farm Arena’s official cleaning and disinfecting product partner over the last year as a part of a multi-year partnership, the NBA states. In September 2021, the company also partnered with the Hawks to donate $100,000 and $10,000 worth of Clorox wipes to APS.
