The Atlanta Hawks celebrated Hispanic Heritage Night this week as they hosted the Indiana Pacers at State Farm Arena.
Camye Mackey; EVP, Chief People, Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena; noted that the themed night was a push for the celebration of differences and aimed to educate through the power of sports, a recent release on NBA.com said.
"We are proud to celebrate the rich history and cultural traditions of the U.S. Hispanic and Latin American communities during Sunday's game," she said in the release.
The night was set to celebrate the rich culture of NBA fans and players across Latin American and U.S. Hispanic communities, the release said. As part of the celebrations, the starting lineup was read in Spanish; and special food selections, including nachos and tacos, were available throughout the game.
Singer Christina Quinones, an Atlanta-born Pop and R&B artist inspired by her Hispanic roots, sang the national anthem prior to tip-off during the event, which also saw special performances by traditional mariachi band Los Mariachis and salsa dance duo Karen y Ricardo.
The festivities were part of the league's 16th annual Noches Éne Bé A Latin Nights program, the release said.
