Atlanta Falcons star wideout Calvin Ridley may have bet more on NFL games than what was originally reported.
In a series of recent tweets, Ridley said he had reached a point where he couldn't even watch football and that he had only bet a total of $1,500. He also acknowledged he was wrong and called on his harsh penalty, stating he was only going to be more healthy when he returned.
"I bet 1500 total I don't have a gambling problem," Ridley said in one tweet.
Despite his claims, a recent report by Sports Handle highlighted documents obtained by the organization that show Ridley wagered more than the amount he claimed and that some of his wagers may have involved the Falcons.
The wide receiver wagered a total of $3,900 over six bets on or including Falcons games, the report said. Of those, five were parlays that included the Falcons' moneyline, and one was a $1,300 in-game bet on the Falcons' team total in its victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 28.
Ridley placed the bets during a period when he was on leave from the team to deal with a non-football-related condition, concerning which he stated he was prioritizing his own mental health, the report said. As a result of the allegations, Ridley has since been suspended indefinitely, but the suspension will run at minimum through the end of the 2022 season.
