Veteran coach David Turner is set to bring his nearly four decades of experience to the Georgia Tech football coaching staff as the team's new assistant head coach and defensive run coordinator.
Head coach Geoff Collins said he more than happy to welcome Turner and his family to the Yellow Jackets family, Georgia Tech reported in a release.
"I'm excited to work with Coach Turner once again," Collins said in the release. "He has spent almost his entire career coaching successful front sevens at the Power Five level. His experience, knowledge and track record of success will make him a huge asset for our players and coaches alike."
Turner was the defensive line coach at the University of Florida for three years prior to joining the Yellow Jackets, Georgia Tech reported. He also has experience as a coach at Texas A&M University, Mississippi State University, the University of Kentucky (defensive line – 2010-12), the University of Alabama and Vanderbilt University.
Turner is responsible for coaching 15 NFL draft picks throughout his career, such as Mississippi State's Fletcher Cox and University of Virginia's Patrick Kerney, Georgia Tech reported.
Turner was once a running back at Davidson College from 1981-84, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1985, Georgia Tech reported.
