Longtime Georgia state budget writer Terry England recently announced that he won't be seeking reelection in November.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta News, as budget writer for the state, England held one of the state's most powerful posts and helped administer approximately $30 billion in state funds along with billions in federal dollars as part of the state budget.
"Eighteen years in this body has been some of the most meaningful work in my entire life," England said, according to FOX 5 Atlanta News.
England assumed the post of budget writer in 2010 just after David Ralston of Blue Ridge became speaker, ending a lot of Republican infighting.
"We were a body, we were a family in disorder," England said "When speaker Ralston became our speaker, and out of that chaos came order," England said.
Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle thanked and praised England for his years of service.
"Throughout the pandemic, he has been a valued and trusted partner in addressing the needs of our state and the unprecedented challenges we’ve faced," Gov. Brian Kemp said in a statement, according to FOX 5 Atlanta News.
Georgia budget writers will continue England's work and provide pay raises for state employees and teachers, increasing funding for education while also pushing through tax rebates and cuts.
