For the first time since 2017, a Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football player, Tariq Carpenter, has been invited to the Senior Bowl. The game starts at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Playing in the Senior Bowl allows NFL prospects to practice and play under NFL coaches, Georgia Tech reported on their site. Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell and his staff will call the plays for the American team.
"We would like to welcome @GeorgiaTechFB Tariq Carpenter @RiqSanity to the 2022 @Reeses Senior Bowl," Senior Bowl officials said on Twitter. "Tariq will suit up for the American Team."
Carpenter has played five seasons for the Yellow Jackets. He played 52 games, in which he started 41 games, recorded 223 tackles and caught four interceptions, Georgia Tech reported.
Four of Carpenter's teammates have been asked to participate in several postseason all-star games, Georgia Tech reported. Offensive lineman Devin Cochran and defensive back Juanyeh Thomas are playing at the East-West Shrine Bowl tonight in Las Vegas; wide receiver Kyric McGowan represented the Yellow Jackets at the Tropical Bowl in Orlando, Florida, on Jan. 15; and defensive back Tre Swilling will be on the field for the NFL Players Association Collegiate Bowl this Saturday in Pasadena, California.
Georgia Tech hasn’t had a year with this many players at the various showcase games since the 2013 season, when eight Yellow Jackets had the chance to suit up for one more college game, Georgia Tech reported.
