Atlanta Hawks and State Farm volunteers recently came together to stock a new food pantry in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
According to FOX 5 News, the volunteers stocked a pantry at the newly renovated Meals On Wheels Atlanta facility. The event took place a few days early of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 93rd birthday.
"Our partnership with State Farm has continued to help us fight food insecurity in Atlanta," said Andrea Carter, the Hawks’ vice president of corporate social responsibility, according to FOX 5 News. "Not only today, but going forward, our employees will have an opportunity to volunteer at Meals On Wheels Atlanta, and we are excited about this continued relationship with a nonprofit organization who strives to help so many in our community."
As part of their partnership, volunteers from the Hawks and State Farm will work together to increasing shelving and storage in the Meals on Wheels food pantry, increasing meal production in the metro Atlanta area.
"As State Farm, in partnership with the Atlanta Hawks, continue our many efforts to fight food insecurity we look forward to working with Meals On Wheels Atlanta to serve the nourishment needs of our neighbors in and around Atlanta," said Victor Terry, State Farm's vice president public affairs and chief diversity officer, according to the FOX 5 News. "We welcome this unique opportunity to make a difference in the communities we serve."
Through a partnership with Goodr, the Hawks and State Farm have provided more than 27,000 meals through pop-up grocery stores to families across metro Atlanta since the beginning of the pandemic.
