Fifth-year senior forward Lorela Cubaj is Georgia Tech’s lone representative on the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s John R. Wooden Midseason Top 25 Watch List.

The list, which features players chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2021-22 season so far, was released on Jan. 5.

According to a GT issued press release, the 6-foot-4-inch Cubaj earned a spot on the list with her rebounding prowess.

“The Italian native currently leads the Yellow Jackets, Atlantic Coast Conference and nation in rebounds per game, averaging 12.8,” the school said on its website. “She has amassed 167 rebounds thus far, placing her first in the ACC and second in the nation, while propelling her to own the all-time Georgia Tech women’s basketball rebounding record.”

With six double-doubles on the season as of Jan. 5, Cubaj helped propel GT to a 10-3 record, the release said.

“She also leads the Yellow Jackets in assists with 63 for a 4.8 assists per game average, making her the only post player in the ACC to lead the team in assists,” the school said on its website.

Cubaj is among the quartet of ACC stars vying for the award.

The others are Elissa Cunane of NC State, Elizabeth Kitley of Virginia Tech and Maddy Wesstbeld of Notre Dame.

The release said the Wooden Award committee will announce a late season list before the National Ballot of 15 players will be released and voted upon during the NCAA Tournament.

As of this writing, the No. 15 Yellow Jackets were riding a two-game winning streak after their 63-52 road win over Pitt.

Cubaj chipped 12 points and seven rebounds to help GT improve to 12-3 on the season and 3-1 in ACC action.
