New 1-step process for retail alcohol beverage license applications

177

City of Milton recently issued the following announcement.

Beginning on Wednesday, January 12, those seeking a retail alcohol beverage license in Milton can go to one place – online – to get what they need from the City of Milton and the state of Georgia.

In the past (and, in fact, for the next two days), someone wanting a license to sell/distribute alcohol at a restaurant, package store, catering/special event and more would have gone through the City of Milton first to receive an alcohol beverage license.

Once that was granted, they’d need then to get approval from the State – specifically, the Georgia Department of Revenue – for the required second, final part of the process.

But soon, applicants will just go to one place for a new retail alcohol beverage license: https://alp.dor.ga.gov/_/.

There, they’ll upload all required documentation to be considered by both the City and Georgia – so all in one step, rather than two – in accordance with recent State legislation.

Right now, this process will only apply to new applications. But the State plans for retail alcohol beverage license renewals, as well, to be handled through the same online portal starting sometime in September 2022.

This new approach does not affect any of Milton’s alcohol-related business regulations. Nor does it impact things like Pouring Permits, Special Events Alcohol Licenses and Public Facility Event Alcohol Licenses – all of which will continue to be handled through the Milton Police Department. (If you have questions about the latter, email pdinfo@cityofmiltonga.us or call 678-242-2570.)

Even then, it should make things a little easier and simpler for current or potential business owners who want a retail alcohol beverage license.

If you have questions generally about how the City of Milton handles such licenses, you can email the City’s Finance Department at bl@cityofmiltonga.us.
