Major League Soccer (MLS) and Continental Tire have renewed the agreement of their successful partnership as the tire company celebrates its 150th anniversary.

The renewed agreement means Continental Tire, one of the world's oldest independent and largest tire manufacturers, will stay on as the New York-based MLS's official tire and as an official partner of all of its clubs, including Atlanta United.

"Atlanta United is excited to continue our partnership with Continental Tire," Atlanta United Business Operations Vice President Georgia O’Donoghue said in the team's Oct. 7 announcement of the renewed agreement. "Continental Tire has shown its commitment to MLS and our fans over the last 12 years and we look forward to continuing to grow the sport in North America."

Atlanta United joined Major League Soccer in 2017 and won the 2018 MLS Cup in just its second season.

Continental Tire sees the renewed agreement as a continuing of its celebration of North American soccer, company Marketing Director Travis Roffler said in an Oct. 7 joint news release from Continental Tire and MLS.

"We've been celebrating the culture of soccer in North America as a partner of Major League Soccer for over 10 years and we're excited to continue the partnership once again," Roffler said. "We have a deep understanding of the passion that drives this sport as Continental’s soccer roots began in the 1950s with Hannover 96, a German professional soccer club. As we celebrate Continental's 150th anniversary this October, we look forward to bringing MLS fans along for the ride for more years to come."

The deal includes a $150,000 gift to MLS fans and club supporters groups.

MLS, a men's professional soccer league that plays under the auspices of the United States Soccer Federation, is made up of 27 teams, 24 in the U.S. — including Atlanta United — and three in Canada. MLS is carrying out plans for its expansion to 30 teams by the 2023 season, the league said.

MLS's partnership with Continental Tire dates back to February 2010 when the first a multi-year partnership with Continental Tire was announced and Continental first became the league's official tire.
