Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has joined an exclusive club that counts Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger as members: the NFL’s 5,000-completions club.
The 36-year-old Ryan became the seventh signal-caller to eclipse the 5,000 mark during Atlanta’s 27-20 victory over the New York Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Oct. 10.
"Ryan reached the completion mark in his 210th career game, making him the second fastest quarterback to reach the milestone in NFL history behind Drew Brees (205)," the team said in a press release.
The release reported that Ryan achieved the feat without the services of his No. 1 and No. 2 wideouts, Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage.
Ryan completed the day with 342 yards and a pair of touchdowns – one to rookie tight end Kyle Pitts and the other to Hayden Hurst – on 33/45 passing.
The victory moved the Falcons to 2-3 just before their bye week.
They’ll meet the Dolphins on the road in a noontime tilt on Oct. 24.
Aside from throwing his 5,000th completion, Ryan has achieved other milestones in 2021.
According to the release, Ryan became the NFL's all-time leader in passing yards through a player's first 14 seasons, as well as became just the 10th player in league history to throw for 350 touchdowns.
