Georgia Tech's golf team finished first in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona, Sep 10 - Sep 12.
"It's awesome to get off to a great start," sophomore Christo Lamprecht said in an interview with Georgia Tech for a news release. "We practiced hard in the off season to get going. So yes, we're very pleased."
The Yellow Jackets not only won the tournament but set a team record for a 54-hole tournament by 12 strokes, according to the Tech news release.
"We did feel like we have a really strong team this year," Lamprecht said in the release. "Leading up to qualifying we had some really low scores. We knew we could score that. It was out there. If you had good shots, you were going to score. It showed us how good we really played."
It was a good performance on a course that for Lamprecht at least, was not his favorite, the student said.
"To be honest, it was kind of a golf course that didn't play to my strengths," Lamprecht said. "It was kind of a golf course where you just need to place yourself in position and score from there. That probably the thing I'm most proud of. I played on a golf course that didn't really suit me as well as it normally does. It's a really good feeling. It's a nice way to start the season, kind of build up our confidence. Very pleased, very pleased."
Lamprecht came in 16-under-par and broke Georgia Tech's 54-hole individual scoring record, according to the release.
Georgia Tech's golf program is in its 27th year under head coach Bruce Heppler.
