Residents of Fulton County living outside the City of Atlanta may be eligible for emergency rental assistance as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, FOX5 has reported.
Qualified individuals can receive up to $1,300 per month for rent and $200 per month for past-due utilities for a maximum of six months through the COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program, the report said.
“I’m thrilled that we are able to reopen this rental-assistance program that will help people when they need it the most,” Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) Robb Pitts said at a Fulton County BOC press conference, FOX reported.
The program originally began in March but had stopped because of increasing demand, according to FOX5. It recently started accepting applications again after the federal government allocated an additional $24 million to the county.
Money received by applicants will go directly to their landlords and utility companies.
Prioritized applications will include households that have been impacted by unemployment for 90 days or more and those with incomes at or below 50% of the area median income, the Fulton County website stated.
The program has been given a total of $42 million in funding.
