Alpharetta is under a Tropical Storm Warning and will begin to experience the effects of Hurricane Helene around 1 AM on Friday. The expected impacts include sustained winds approaching 60 mph with gusts over 80 mph, heavy rain adding another 6 to 8 inches tonight, widespread tree falls, and extended power outages.

Over the past 48 hours, Alpharetta has been preparing for the storm. The city activated its Emergency Operations Center early this morning and has public safety, public works, and other city teams set in rotations for continuous operations. Vehicles are fueled, equipment is ready, and plans are in place.

Residents are urged to prioritize safety during and after Hurricane Helene. “Follow trusted sources like the National Weather Service, the City of Alpharetta, and local news for the latest information,” officials advise. The city will update its website (www.alpharetta.ga.us) and social media accounts throughout the storm event.

Residents should ensure they have necessary supplies to last through an extended power outage. Officials recommend having enough food, water, medications, and other essentials for at least 72 hours.

Travel should be avoided during and immediately after the storm to allow emergency personnel and utility crews to operate efficiently. High winds may cause debris capable of serious injury, and downed power lines pose electrocution risks.

For non-life-threatening issues requiring police or fire services, residents should call 678-297-6300 instead of 911. Other issues can be reported using the SeeClickFix app available on smartphones or via the City website.
